The combination of lean turkey, melted mozzarella, and a hint of crunch from the homemade binder delivers a satisfying meal that's as nutritious as it is flavorful.
INGREDIENTS
5 oz Lean Ground Turkey
1 oz Fresh Mozzarella Cheese
1 small Whole Wheat Burger Bun
1 large Egg
1 tbsp Whole Wheat Breadcrumbs
Olive Oil Spray
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
Salt & Black Pepper to taste
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, combine the lean ground turkey, egg, whole wheat breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
Divide the turkey mixture into two equal portions. Press a small indentation in the center of each portion and tuck in the mozzarella cheese, then mold the meat around the cheese to seal it completely.
Shape each portion into a patty and lightly spray both sides with olive oil spray.
Place the patties on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-22 minutes, or until fully cooked and lightly crispy on the outside. Flip the patties halfway through baking for even crisping.
During the last 5 minutes of baking, place the whole wheat burger bun halves on the sheet to lightly toast.
Assemble the turkey burger by placing the crispy mozzarella-stuffed patty on the bun, and add your favorite fresh toppings if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy!
