Crispy Pan-Seared Spam with Caramelized Pineapple and Egg Whites
A playful twist on a classic savory treat, this dish pairs crispy, pan-seared Spam with sweet, caramelized pineapple and a fluffy scramble of egg whites. The smoky saltiness of the Spam beautifully contrasts the natural sweetness of the pineapple, while the egg whites boost the protein content, making this dish a satisfying, well-rounded meal perfect for any time of day.
INGREDIENTS
4 ounces Spam (approx. 2 slices)
1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
0.75 cup egg whites (approx. 6 egg whites)
1 teaspoon honey
1 teaspoon olive oil
Pinch of black pepper
Pinch of salt
PREPARATION
Slice the Spam into 1/4-inch thick pieces.
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil.
Place the Spam slices in the skillet and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side until they are crispy and browned.
While the Spam crisps up, add the pineapple chunks to a separate pan over medium heat. Drizzle with a teaspoon of honey and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pineapple pieces start to caramelize and get a slight char.
In a small bowl, lightly whisk the egg whites with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
Once the Spam is crispy, remove it from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, lower the heat to medium and pour in the egg whites. Gently scramble until just set.
Plate the crispy Spam slices alongside the caramelized pineapple and scrambled egg whites. Serve warm and enjoy the interplay of sweet and savory flavors.
