Preheat your oven to 400°F.
Finely dice one small yellow onion and mince the garlic cloves.
In a bowl, combine the lean ground turkey with the diced onion, minced garlic, a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and chopped fresh basil. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.
Form the turkey mixture into meatballs, about the size of a golf ball, and place them on a lightly greased baking sheet.
Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until they are cooked through and lightly browned.
While the meatballs are baking, dice the fresh tomatoes. In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the diced tomatoes along with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Let the tomato sauce simmer for about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally until it slightly thickens.
Prepare the whole wheat spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Combine the baked turkey meatballs with the spaghetti and pour over the fresh tomato sauce. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired and serve warm.
