INGREDIENTS
1 whole organic turkey hot dogs
3 oz 93% lean ground beef
0.25 cup tomato puree
0.5 oz sharp cheddar cheese
1 whole light whole wheat hot dog buns
0.5 tsp chili powder
0.25 tsp cumin
0.25 tsp garlic powder
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
0 tsp avocado oil
PREPARATION
Prepare the chili: In a small skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink.
Stir in tomato puree, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and pepper then simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
While chili simmers, heat avocado oil in another skillet over medium-high then butterfly the turkey hot dogs by slicing them lengthwise almost all the way through.
Place hot dogs cut-side down in the skillet and sear for 3-4 minutes until a golden-brown crust forms.
Lightly toast the buns in the same skillet or a toaster.
Place one crispy hot dog in each bun.
Top with the beef chili and sprinkle evenly with shredded cheddar cheese.
Optional: Place under a broiler for 30 seconds to melt the cheese completely.
