Crispy Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
Butterflied grass-fed beef hot dogs seared until golden and topped with a hearty turkey chili and a crispy melted cheddar crust.
INGREDIENTS
1 whole grass-fed beef hot dogs
4 oz ground turkey (93% lean)
0.5 cup tomato puree
1 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tsp chili powder
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
0.25 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp water
1 tbsp red onion
PREPARATION
In a small non-stick skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles.
Stir in the chili powder, sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, tomato puree, and water; simmer on low for 5-7 minutes until thickened.
While the chili simmers, slice the hot dogs lengthwise (butterflying them) without cutting all the way through.
Place the hot dogs flat-side down in a separate hot skillet and sear for 3 minutes until the edges are crispy and caramelized.
Flip the hot dogs and sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese directly onto the hot dogs and the surrounding pan surface.
Once the cheese has melted and formed a crispy 'skirt' around the hot dogs, remove them from the pan.
Plate the crispy hot dogs, ladle the turkey chili over the top, and garnish with finely diced red onion.
