Classic Baked Ziti with Ricotta
Whole wheat ziti tossed with lean ground turkey and aromatic marinara, baked under a bubbly layer of creamy ricotta and melted mozzarella.
INGREDIENTS
1.5 oz Whole wheat ziti pasta
5 oz Ground turkey (93% lean)
0.5 cup Marinara sauce (no sugar added)
2 tbsp Part-skim ricotta cheese
0.5 oz Part-skim mozzarella cheese
1 cup Fresh baby spinach
1 tsp Olive oil
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
0.25 tsp Dried oregano
1 clove Garlic
PREPARATION
Preheat your oven to 375°F and prepare a small oven-safe baking dish.
Bring a pot of salted water to a boil and cook the ziti until just al dente, then drain and set aside.
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic for about one minute until fragrant.
Add the ground turkey to the skillet, seasoning with sea salt, black pepper, and dried oregano, and cook until browned.
Stir the fresh baby spinach into the turkey mixture until it is just wilted.
In the baking dish, combine the cooked pasta, the turkey and spinach mixture, and the marinara sauce.
Dollop the ricotta cheese over the top and sprinkle evenly with the shredded mozzarella.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is golden and the sauce is bubbling around the edges.
