Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Caramelized Onions
Pan-seared grass-fed beef patties topped with sharp cheddar and crispy turkey bacon, served in fresh lettuce wraps with sweet caramelized onions.
INGREDIENTS
7 oz 93% lean grass-fed ground beef
1 slice uncured turkey bacon
0.25 oz sharp cheddar cheese
0.5 cup yellow onion
0.5 tsp extra virgin olive oil
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
2 large butter lettuce leaves
1 tbsp sugar-free ketchup
PREPARATION
Thinly slice the yellow onion into half-moons.
Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium-low heat, add the onions, and cook slowly for 15 minutes until soft and golden brown.
While onions caramelize, cook the turkey bacon in a separate skillet over medium heat until crispy, then set aside on a paper towel.
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and form them into thin, wide patties.
Season both sides of the beef patties with sea salt and black pepper.
Increase the heat of the bacon skillet to medium-high and sear the patties for 3 to 4 minutes per side.
Place the cheddar cheese on one of the patties during the final minute of cooking and cover with a lid to melt.
Lay out the butter lettuce leaves and stack the two patties, the crispy bacon, and the caramelized onions inside.
Top with sugar-free ketchup and fold the lettuce over to serve as a wrap.
