Classic Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
Grilled grass-fed beef sausages nestled in a toasted sprouted grain bun and topped with a savory, protein-packed beef chili and sharp melted cheddar.
INGREDIENTS
1 whole sprouted grain hot dog bun
0.5 whole grass-fed beef hot dogs
4 oz 93% lean ground beef
0.25 cup tomato sauce
1 tbsp water
0.5 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tsp chili powder
0.5 tsp ground cumin
0.25 tsp garlic powder
0.25 tsp onion powder
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
PREPARATION
In a small non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the lean ground beef until fully browned, breaking it into very small crumbles with a spatula.
Add the tomato sauce, water, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper to the skillet.
Reduce the heat to low and simmer the chili for 5-7 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the flavors are well combined.
While the chili simmers, heat a grill pan or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and sear the hot dogs for 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally until lightly charred and hot throughout.
Lightly toast the sprouted grain bun in the same pan or a toaster until golden.
Place both hot dogs into the toasted bun and generously ladle the hot beef chili over the top.
Sprinkle with the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and cover for 30 seconds to allow the cheese to melt before serving.
