Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Caramelized Onions
Pan-seared lean beef patties layered with crispy center-cut bacon and sweet caramelized onions, all wrapped in buttery lettuce for a satisfyingly crunchy bite.
INGREDIENTS
6 oz Ground beef (93% lean)
1 slice Center-cut bacon
1 slice Sharp cheddar cheese
0.5 cup Yellow onion
0 tsp Extra virgin olive oil
2 leaf Butter lettuce
1 slice Tomato
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
1 tsp Dijon mustard
PREPARATION
In a small skillet over medium-low heat, add the olive oil and sliced yellow onions. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for 10-12 minutes until soft and deeply golden brown.
While onions caramelize, cook the center-cut bacon in a separate skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove and drain on a paper towel.
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and form into thin patties. Season both sides evenly with sea salt and black pepper.
Increase the heat to medium-high in the skillet used for bacon. Place the patties in the pan and sear for 2-3 minutes per side. During the last minute of cooking, place the cheddar cheese slice on one patty and cover with a lid to melt.
Lay out the butter lettuce leaves to act as your 'bun'. Place the first patty on the lettuce, followed by the cheesy patty.
Top the patties with the crispy bacon, caramelized onions, and the tomato slice.
Spread the Dijon mustard over the top and wrap the lettuce leaves tightly around the stack to serve.
