Ground Chicken Burger with Caramelized Onions
Pan-seared ground chicken patty topped with sweet, balsamic-glazed caramelized onions and peppery arugula on a toasted whole grain bun.
INGREDIENTS
7 oz Ground chicken
0.5 medium Yellow onion
0.5 tsp Olive oil
0.5 whole Whole wheat bun
1 cup Arugula
1 tbsp Plain Greek yogurt
1 tsp Balsamic vinegar
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
0.25 tsp Garlic powder
PREPARATION
Slice the yellow onion into very thin half-moons.
Heat half of the olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat; add the onions and cook slowly for 12-15 minutes until they are deeply golden and soft.
Stir the balsamic vinegar into the onions during the last minute of cooking to glaze them, then remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground chicken with the sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, then form into one thick, even patty.
Wipe out the skillet and heat the remaining olive oil over medium-high heat.
Sear the chicken patty for 5-6 minutes per side until the exterior is browned and the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
Lightly toast the whole wheat bun in the skillet or a toaster until warm.
Spread the Greek yogurt on the bottom bun, layer with the fresh arugula, the cooked chicken patty, and the warm caramelized onions.
