Double Bacon Cheeseburger with Caramelized Onions
Pan-seared grass-fed beef patties topped with sharp cheddar and crispy sugar-free bacon, nestled in buttery lettuce leaves with sweet, golden caramelized onions.
INGREDIENTS
6 oz ground beef (93% lean)
1 slice sugar-free bacon
1 oz sharp cheddar cheese
0.5 cup yellow onion
1 tsp avocado oil
2 large butter lettuce leaves
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
1 tsp dijon mustard
PREPARATION
Thinly slice the yellow onion. Heat the avocado oil in a small skillet over medium-low heat and add the onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes until soft and golden brown.
In a separate cast-iron skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon slice until crispy. Remove the bacon, drain on a paper towel, and cut it in half.
Divide the ground beef into two equal portions and form them into thin patties. Season both sides of each patty with sea salt and black pepper.
Increase the skillet heat to medium-high. Sear the beef patties for 3 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and immediately top one with the sharp cheddar cheese.
Place the second patty on top of the cheese-covered patty (stacking them) and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and the beef is cooked through.
Lay out the large butter lettuce leaves. Spread Dijon mustard on the bottom leaf, place the double patty stack on top, followed by the crispy bacon and caramelized onions.
Top with the second lettuce leaf and serve immediately while the beef is hot and juicy.
