Triple-Decker Grilled Cheese with Caramelized Onions
Golden-brown sprouted bread layered with melted sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and savory turkey breast, complemented by the rich sweetness of slow-cooked caramelized onions.
INGREDIENTS
2 slice sprouted grain bread
1 oz sharp cheddar cheese
1 oz part-skim mozzarella cheese
4 oz deli turkey breast
0.5 cup yellow onion
0.25 tsp grass-fed butter
0.13 tsp sea salt
0.13 tsp black pepper
PREPARATION
Heat a skillet over medium-low heat and add 0.5 tsp of grass-fed butter and the yellow onions.
Sauté the onions with sea salt and black pepper for 10-12 minutes until soft and deeply caramelized.
Remove onions from the skillet and wipe it clean.
Lay out three slices of sprouted grain bread and lightly butter one side of the top and bottom slices with the remaining butter.
Place the first slice of bread butter-side down in the skillet over medium heat.
Layer with sharp cheddar cheese, half of the turkey breast, and half of the caramelized onions.
Place the second slice of bread on top, then layer with mozzarella cheese, the remaining turkey, and the remaining onions.
Top with the final slice of bread, butter-side up.
Grill for 3-4 minutes per side until the bread is golden-brown and the cheese is completely melted.
