Mozzarella Stick Beef Burger with Marinara
Pan-seared grass-fed beef burger stuffed with melty mozzarella cheese, topped with vibrant marinara sauce and fresh greens on a toasted whole grain bun.
INGREDIENTS
6 oz 93% lean ground beef
1 whole part-skim mozzarella cheese stick
0.5 whole whole wheat burger bun
0.25 cup no-sugar-added marinara sauce
0 tsp extra virgin olive oil
0.25 tsp sea salt
0.25 tsp black pepper
0.25 tsp garlic powder
0.25 cup fresh baby spinach
1 slice tomato
PREPARATION
In a small bowl, mix the ground beef with sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until just combined.
Divide the beef into two equal portions and flatten them into thin, wide circular patties.
Slice the mozzarella cheese stick into four small rounds and place them in the center of one beef patty.
Place the second patty on top and pinch the edges firmly to seal the cheese completely inside the meat.
Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Carefully place the burger in the skillet and sear for 5 to 6 minutes per side until the exterior is browned and the cheese is molten.
While the burger rests, lightly toast the whole wheat bun in the same skillet or a toaster.
Assemble the burger by placing the baby spinach and tomato on the bottom bun, followed by the stuffed patty.
Spoon the warmed marinara sauce over the patty and top with the remaining bun half before serving.
