Classic Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
Grilled lean turkey links nestled in toasted sprouted grain buns and topped with a savory, protein-rich beef chili that offers a satisfyingly smoky finish.
INGREDIENTS
1 whole organic turkey hot dogs
1 whole sprouted grain hot dog buns
3 oz lean ground beef (93% lean)
2 tbsp tomato puree
0.25 tsp chili powder
0.13 tsp ground cumin
0.13 tsp garlic powder
0.13 tsp onion powder
1 tbsp shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 tbsp diced white onion
1 tsp yellow mustard
0.13 tsp sea salt
0.13 tsp black pepper
PREPARATION
In a small non-stick skillet over medium heat, brown the lean ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it into very fine crumbles with a spatula.
Stir in the tomato puree, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper; reduce heat to low and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the chili has thickened.
While the chili simmers, heat a grill pan or cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat and grill the turkey hot dogs for 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally until charred and heated through.
During the last 2 minutes of cooking the hot dogs, place the sprouted grain buns on the grill or in a toaster until lightly golden and warm.
Place one turkey hot dog into each toasted bun and generously spoon the warm beef chili over the links.
Finish by sprinkling the shredded cheddar cheese and diced white onions over the chili, and add a drizzle of yellow mustard before serving.
