Pork Burger with Caramelized Onions
Sautéed lean ground pork patties topped with sweet, golden caramelized onions and peppery arugula on a toasted whole grain bun.
INGREDIENTS
7 oz Ground pork
0.5 medium Yellow onion
0.5 tsp Extra virgin olive oil
0.5 whole Whole wheat burger bun
0.5 cup Baby arugula
1 tsp Dijon mustard
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
0.25 tsp Garlic powder
PREPARATION
Thinly slice the yellow onion into half-moons.
Heat the olive oil in a small skillet over medium-low heat. Add the onions and a pinch of salt, cooking for 15-20 minutes until they are soft and deeply caramelized.
In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork with garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper. Mix gently and form into one large, even patty.
Heat a separate non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Place the pork patty in the pan and sear for 5-6 minutes per side until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
While the pork cooks, lightly toast the whole wheat bun in a toaster or on the edge of the skillet.
Spread the Dijon mustard on the bottom half of the toasted bun.
Layer the baby arugula on top of the mustard, followed by the cooked pork patty.
Top the burger with the warm caramelized onions and the top bun before serving.
