Preheat your oven to 450°F to ensure a proper sear on the exterior of the roast.
In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, chopped rosemary, chopped thyme, sea salt, and black pepper to create a thick herb paste.
Pat the prime rib dry with a paper towel and rub the herb paste evenly over all sides of the meat.
Place the roast in a shallow roasting pan and bake for 15 minutes at the high temperature to develop a golden-brown crust.
Reduce the oven temperature to 325°F and continue roasting until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part reaches 120°F for medium-rare.
During the last 12 minutes of cooking, arrange the asparagus spears around the roast in the pan to soften.
Remove the roast from the oven and transfer to a cutting board, tenting loosely with foil to rest for at least 15 minutes.
Slice the beef against the grain and serve the 6 oz portion alongside the roasted asparagus.
