Whole wheat pasta tossed with lean ground turkey and savory marinara, baked under a bubbling layer of creamy ricotta and melted mozzarella.
INGREDIENTS
5 oz 93% lean ground turkey
0.25 cup Whole wheat ziti pasta
0.5 cup No-sugar-added marinara sauce
1 cup Fresh baby spinach
2 tbsp Part-skim ricotta cheese
0.5 oz Part-skim mozzarella cheese
1 tbsp Grated parmesan cheese
0.25 tsp Dried oregano
0.25 tsp Garlic powder
0.13 tsp Sea salt
0.13 tsp Black pepper
PREPARATION
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Cook the whole wheat ziti in a pot of boiling water according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
In a large non-stick skillet over medium heat, cook the ground turkey until fully browned and crumbled.
Add the fresh baby spinach to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until the leaves are just wilted.
Stir in the marinara sauce, dried oregano, garlic powder, sea salt, and black pepper, allowing the mixture to simmer for 2 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the cooked ziti until the pasta is evenly coated in the meat sauce.
Transfer the pasta mixture to a small oven-safe baking dish and dollop the ricotta cheese evenly over the top.
Sprinkle with the shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese, then bake for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and golden.
