Whole wheat ziti and lean ground turkey baked in a vibrant marinara sauce with dollops of creamy ricotta and melted mozzarella.
INGREDIENTS
6 oz Ground turkey
1.5 oz Whole wheat ziti
0.5 cup Marinara sauce
2 tbsp Part-skim ricotta cheese
1 tbsp Shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1 cup Fresh baby spinach
1 tsp Olive oil
1 clove Garlic
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
0.25 tsp Dried oregano
PREPARATION
Preheat your oven to 375°F and lightly grease a small oven-safe baking dish.
Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the whole wheat ziti until al dente, then drain and set aside.
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat and sauté the minced garlic for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the ground turkey to the skillet, seasoning with sea salt, black pepper, and dried oregano, and cook until browned and crumbled.
Stir the fresh baby spinach into the turkey until it is fully wilted, then pour in the marinara sauce and simmer for 2 minutes.
Toss the cooked ziti into the skillet with the turkey and sauce until every noodle is well-coated.
Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish, then place dollops of ricotta cheese on top and sprinkle with the mozzarella.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is melted and the edges are slightly golden and bubbly.
