Classic Chili Cheese Hot Dogs
Lean beef franks nestled in a toasted whole wheat bun and topped with a savory, protein-packed homemade chili and sharp melted cheddar.
INGREDIENTS
2 link Uncured beef hot dogs
1 whole Whole wheat hot dog bun
4 oz Ground beef
0.25 cup Tomato puree
0.5 tsp Chili powder
0.25 tsp Ground cumin
0.25 tsp Garlic powder
0.25 tsp Onion powder
0.13 tsp Sea salt
0.13 tsp Black pepper
1 oz Sharp cheddar cheese
1 tbsp Red onion
PREPARATION
In a small skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it into fine crumbles.
Stir in the tomato puree, chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
Lower the heat and simmer the chili for 5-7 minutes until thickened and the flavors are well combined.
While the chili simmers, grill or boil the hot dogs until heated through and lightly charred.
Lightly toast the whole wheat hot dog bun in a pan or toaster until golden.
Place the hot dogs into the bun and top generously with the hot beef chili.
Sprinkle with shredded sharp cheddar cheese while the chili is hot so it melts, and finish with finely diced red onion.
