Pan-Seared Ahi Tuna with Wasabi Mayo
Pan-seared sesame-crusted Ahi tuna served with a zesty wasabi mayo and a refreshing cucumber salad.
INGREDIENTS
7 oz Ahi tuna steak
1 tbsp Avocado oil mayonnaise
1 tsp Wasabi paste
1 tsp Avocado oil
1 tbsp Black sesame seeds
1 tbsp White sesame seeds
1 cup Cucumber
1 tsp Sesame oil
1 tbsp Rice vinegar
0.25 tsp Sea salt
0.25 tsp Black pepper
PREPARATION
Pat the Ahi tuna steak completely dry with paper towels to ensure a proper sear.
Season both sides of the tuna steak evenly with the sea salt and black pepper.
Mix the black and white sesame seeds on a small plate and press the tuna firmly into the seeds to coat all sides.
In a small ramekin, whisk the avocado oil mayonnaise and wasabi paste together until the mixture is smooth.
Thinly slice the cucumber into rounds and toss them in a bowl with the rice vinegar and sesame oil.
Heat the avocado oil in a heavy-bottomed skillet over medium-high heat until it just begins to smoke.
Carefully place the tuna in the hot pan and sear for 60 to 90 seconds per side for a delicate rare finish.
Transfer the tuna to a cutting board, let it rest for 2 minutes, then slice against the grain and serve with the wasabi mayo.
