Apply Strength.
Being strong is one thing. Knowing how to use that strength is another.
Foundation Performance is an 8-week training program designed to bridge the gap between traditional strength training and the physical qualities that help you move with greater power, coordination, control, and confidence.
Throughout this phase, you’ll continue building and maintaining strength, but your training begins to expand beyond traditional lifting. You’ll jump. Land. Rotate. Decelerate. Move laterally. Change direction. Produce force quickly. Absorb force. And learn how to coordinate your body through movements that challenge you in entirely new ways.
Because your body was never designed to only squat, hinge, push, and pull in predictable directions. It was designed to move.
Throughout Foundation Performance, you'll train:
Power and explosiveness: Learn how to produce force quickly through jumps, throws, and explosive movements.
Deceleration and force absorption: Develop the ability to land, stop, and control momentum instead of only learning how to create it.
Rotation: Learn to produce and transfer force across the body through coordinated rotational movement.
Multidirectional movement: Build confidence moving forward, backward, laterally, and between directions.
Single-leg control: Continue developing strength, balance, and coordination when one side of the body has to take greater responsibility.
Coordination: Improve how your feet, hips, trunk, and upper body work together as movement becomes more dynamic.
Strength: Continue developing the strength you've built while learning how to apply it through more challenging positions and movement patterns.
Performance capacity: Improve your ability to maintain quality movement and coordination as fatigue increases.
You'll train through four structured workouts each week:
Day 1: Lower Body Power + Strength
Develop lower-body power, single-leg control, strength, and the ability to produce and absorb force.
Day 2: Upper Body Power + Strength
Combine upper-body strength with explosive pressing, rotational power, pulling, and greater demands on trunk stability.
Day 3: Multidirectional Strength + Deceleration
Learn to move outside of the sagittal plane through lateral movement, rotation, controlled stopping, and changes of direction.
Day 4: Integrated Performance
Bring strength, power, coordination, unilateral movement, and multiple movement patterns together so your body learns to work as one system.
You'll also receive an optional Mobility + Recovery Day and an optional Performance Capacity Day for those who want additional recovery, conditioning, and movement work.
You don't need to play a sport to benefit from athletic qualities.
Being able to jump and land. Catch yourself. Control your momentum. Move side to side. Rotate. Balance on one leg. React to changing positions. Produce force quickly. Those are human movement qualities. And for many adults, they're also qualities we gradually stop practicing.
Foundation Performance gives you an intentional way to bring them back into your training while continuing to build on the movement quality and strength that came before.
You won't be thrown into advanced drills on Day 1.
The program progresses over eight weeks so you can first learn the movement, build consistency, increase intent, develop confidence, and gradually increase the demand.
You'll also complete a Foundation Performance Assessment at the beginning and end of the program to see how your power, landing control, deceleration, rotation, coordination, and multidirectional movement change over time.
And because not everyone has the same equipment, experience, or starting point, you'll also receive exercise alternatives and regressions to help you preserve the purpose of the movement when a different variation is more appropriate.
Foundation Performance is Phase 3 of the Foundation Series.
Phase 1: Foundation Reset: Learn Your Body
Phase 2: Foundation Strength: Build Strength
Phase 3: Foundation Performance: Apply Strength
Phase 4: Foundation Athletic Capacity: Express Athleticism (Coming soon!)
If you've completed Foundation Reset and Foundation Strength, this is your next progression.
If you haven't completed the previous phases, you can still begin here if you already have a reasonable foundation of movement control, strength, and resistance-training experience.
You'll receive the complete 8-week Foundation Performance program, including four structured training days each week, optional recovery and capacity sessions, mobility and performance preparation, progressive power training, strength work, coaching cues, exercise alternatives, educational guidance, and starting and final performance assessments.
This isn't about collecting more exercises. It's about building a body that has more options. A body that can produce force, absorb it, redirect it, and confidently move beyond the predictable patterns of traditional strength training.
You've built strength.
Now it's time to apply it.

So far so good! The workouts are definitely on the longer side. I reallllly have to time my rests between my set and ignore everything else to get it done. I would say that outside of the warm up, the workout itself is an hour long. If you know the forms it’s much quicker but anyone who doesn’t know how to do the workouts will have a lot longer of a completion time. That being said, I LOVE this program. It’s exactly what I wanted as someone who has been lifting for a while but wants to focus on mobility and strengthening muscles for functionality .

I liked that it worked everything and it was challenging new movements and stretches that my body as a almost 40 yr old needed to incorporate in her training.

Pretty interesting routines, but the workouts are really long. Just something for participants/Zahra to consider. Also could use some more robust cues for several of the exercises? A work in progress but so far it’s great!

I’ve seen Zahra’s workouts on IG and when I heard about one of her challenges coming up, I knew I had to jump on it! It’s been 2 week of the challenge and boy is my body feeling it! I love her workouts! This challenge has been so motivating! Thank you Zahra for taking your time on creating something so fun yet challenging that I can tell is already bringing results! 100% recommend!

Most fitness programs train muscles. I believe we should train humans. The Zahra Effect is built around one simple idea: a stronger body should also be a more capable body. That means developing mobility, stability, strength, balance, coordination, power, and athleticism, not just for the gym, but for everyday life. Every program is designed to build upon the last, giving you a clear path for long-term progress instead of random workouts. Whether you're just beginning your fitness journey, returning from an injury, training for performance, or simply want to move better, you'll find a structured progression that meets you where you are and helps you become more capable over time. My mission is simple: build humans that move well for life.
