I am 43 years old and found over the last few years my weight and body shape beginning to creep towards a place I was unhappy and insecure about. I eat healthy, work out, and did Cheryl’s YouTube videos which were wonderful. But something wasn’t working: either I was not consistent enough or didn’t push out of my comfort zone. Finally decided to try the Summer Strong challenge and really commit to it fully. What a wonderful experience it has been! This is my most honest review of my first Summer Strong challenge with Cheryl. I was always skinny and consistent with training throughout my life. However, three years ago, I gained 10 kg (perimenopause). The same weight I had during one of my pregnancies! I did everything—and more—and still, nothing changed. I followed workout programs from two well-known trainers, and nothing. The way I had always eaten no longer worked. I'm a nutrition professor, and even that didn’t help! No diet worked—not even the one heavily promoted by a famous doctor specializing in menopause. Nothing… Still, being used to training 5 times a week, I started the challenge full of doubts: what could I possibly achieve by training just 3 times a week if nothing had changed with 5? Nevertheless, I committed to following Cheryl to the letter. And… the magic happened without me even realizing it. Through her pedagogy, Cheryl made it clear that the key was training to muscle failure. The goal wasn’t to lose weight. The goal wasn’t “next month.” The goal was today: to push every set to failure. Nothing more. And after 6 weeks, where the goal shifted from losing weight to becoming strong, everything changed. Did I lose weight? No. But the mirror shows a completely different image. I have purchased all of Cheryl's challenges (five so far) and began the first one in January 2025. I must say that I have seen better results following her programs than my 3 years of solo lifting. I also hired a personal trainer in 2019 for 4 months and honestly, Cheryl's programs provided me with more guidance and insights than any other personal trainer would give. She is always aware of our challenges and when there is an exercise that is tricky, she always provides extra information and visuals to help us prevent injury and push through the challenges. Since January and I'm always so terrified that the challenge I'm on will be the last, but when Cheryl announced a new program I'm so relieved because I am certain what I'm doing with these challenges have made me feel better at the age of 43 than I did when I was 23. I really like the consistency and accountability this program has given me. This is the first time I have been in a community like this with like minded, encouraging people. The fact based knowledge that Cheryl shares is unmatchable. I am really enjoying the supersets because they are little shorter, but very effective and efficient. Great App which allows you to record your weights and annotate. Cheryl's instructional videos and programming has been on point, takes the thinking out of it. In the best shape and the strongest I've been in awhile. Lifting 3 times a week with rest days in between still leaves room for other modalities of training.
